Fergus Black - Conductor

Fergus conducts the following groups:

  • Peterborough Young Singers
  • Peterborough Children's Choir
    Peterborough Youth Choir

    Fergus founded the Children's Choir in Peterborough in 1994, and conducts the choir in weekly rehearsals and in concerts. Concerts in 2002 include 'Songs from the Shows' at the Town Hall in April, and a joint concert with the visiting Calgary Children's Choir in July at Stamford Arts Centre.
  • Boston Choral Society

    Fergus began working with BCS in 2001, and has conducted a number of concerts with them, including Faure Requiem, Dvorak Mass in D, Gorecki Totus Tuus, Stanford's Revenge, Haydn's Creation, as well as two Christmas concerts. 2003/4 was the Society's 50th Anniversary concert, culminating in a grand perforrnance of Elgar Dream of Gerontius with Cantemus and the Grantham and Lincoln Choral Society with VIVA (The East of England Orchestra), soloists Margaret MacDonald, Justin Lavender and Jeremy White.

    In 2004/5, there are three concerts: Verdi Requiem, Christmas and Popular choruses

  • Saint Martin's and Saint Mary's, Stamford.

    Fergus took up a new role, directing this small adult choir at two Stamford churches at the start of 2004.

  • Other appointments

    Fergus was Musical Director for Boston Operatic Society in 2004/5, and was Musical Director for the week's run of Oklahoma . Previously for the society, he has conducted Maggie May and Carousel.

    From 1996 to the end of 2003, Fergus directed the choir of Men and Boys at All Saints Church in Peterborough. The church has a musical establishment with two sung services each week and regular concerts and trips away.

    In 2001, he directed Stamford Gilbert and Sullivan Players in The Grand Duke at Stamford Arts Centre, and conducted the Deacon's School Choir.
    Workshops
    Fergus has directed a number of workshops for children. In 1999 he directed a schools' project called Sing Out! and in 2001, conducted the massed choirs of the Spillsby Music Festival
    From 1998-2003, he was also a trustee and secretary of the East Midlands Choirs Charitable Trust, for which he organised training workshops.
